Important Steps In Faith For Bobby And Lai

Last Sunday, Bobby and Lai were both baptised, and next week they will be confirmed at our St John’s service. Bobby and Lai both completed the Alpha course and explain why they want to be baptised and confirmed.
Bobby Bacchus:
I have been fortunate enough to be healthy and from a stable family. Getting married in 2015, starting a family in 2018, buying a house and having a mortgage all within the last few years made me take life seriously. The outbreak of Covid and contemporary public figures appearing to be less virtuous and striving to be outrageous rather than exemplary has made me choose to take a calmer and more uplifting path. I have found prayer to be source of great strength. Writing a will and making provisions for wife and child is the financial side taken care of, I have been searching for peace in my soul. Confirmation should help me get closer to God and show others the way forward. I hope Confirmation gives me the composure to be the role model I would like to be for my family and wider community. I completed the Alpha course and this helped develop my thinking about the Christian faith.
Lai Sing:
For me, I always felt something was missing or incomplete and I felt there was something I had to find out. I didn’t have words for that until I attended the Alpha course at St Mary which talked about exploring the basics of Christian faith. I believe every journey begins with a decision to do something, to take a step in a certain direction. In the journey toward God, this is the best decision I ever made that changed my life because God have a plan for everything and everyone. Proverbs 3:5-6 says “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” As a new believer, I received the Holy Spirit and Baptism is the beginning of the journey. The confirmation means accepting responsibility for my faith and strengthening my relationship with God.
