Introducing Rach Wooden

Last week at our services we announced that Rach Wooden will be joining our team at St John’s with St Mary’s after her ordination this summer.
Thank you so much to Dave and your PCC for agreeing to have me join you for my curacy in September! As the ‘village’ of Isleworth is very connected and friendly with its local schools and churches (especially the churches women’s breakfasts), I will already know some of you and I’m looking forward to meeting everyone else.
As some of you will know, I’m married to Jon and we’ve been part of the church family at All Souls St Margarets (where Jon is Church Manager/Lay Minister) for the last 14 years with our 2 daughters Emily (17) and Esther (15). I love cycling, walking with our dog Charlie, living near the Thames and having so many amazing beautiful green spaces on our doorstep. I also trained as Lay Minister with Jon although felt called to ordination a number of years ago (although resisted for quite some time!).
My curacy is probably going to look a bit different from what most of us are used to because I will be continuing with my work as a Specialist Occupational Therapist in the Housing Department for Richmond and Wandsworth Borough Councils. As well as being passionate about helping us think through how we live as disciples of Jesus Christ in our world, I also believe that the provision of sustainable, affordable and accessible housing is an issue which we as the church can and should help with. I think that God may have a purpose for my work in the world of housing as well as with the church. I know that some of you are already thinking about this area of social justice and I’m looking forward to joining in with the conversation. I’m finishing my studies at St Mellitus College this term and am excited to see what God has in store.
