Alpha – A Chance to Explore the Meaning of Life

On Thursday evenings for the last couple of months a dozen or so of us have got together at St Mary’s and also online for what might well be my favourite ever Alpha course. The group has been hugely enriched by having such a variety of people of different ages, backgrounds and beliefs. The opportunity to eat together each week has meant that we have built what feels like significant friendships (which are much harder to build when you are running a course like Alpha solely online).
Half way through the course we spent half a day together and there were some very special times when people asked for and received prayer for many things in their lives and for their families. I believe that we have all grown in our understanding of the Christian beliefs and practices and that for some of the group the course has marked a significant change in how they view Jesus and the church.
As I have been looking back on this Alpha Course (our final Thursday session is this coming week) I have been reminded how valuable a part of church life Alpha is. On Alpha we have the all too rare opportunity to listen to others and share our own questions, beliefs and ideas. So if you have never been part an Alpha course, if you would like to connect more deeply with people and you don’t mind putting up with terrible jokes from me (and some mildly amusing anecdotes from Dave) then do sign up for the next course. In the meantime I am looking forward to some amazing Brazilian food Dave has promised to cook for our final session next week!
