The Family Food Club – over to you!

‘We will turn this responsibility over to them…’ Acts 6:3b

It feels rather apt to mention the Family Food Club in the week that the church is looking at a passage in the Bible about the fair distribution of food! As many of you know, the Family Food Club started at Easter to give a helping hand to any family needing extra support during the school holidays. This initiative is an attempt to find and support families who (like the Greek-speaking community mentioned in Acts) felt overlooked particularly in this post-Covid season. Our two-week pilot went well – you can see some of the stats in the picture. Families who came expressed appreciation and gave us positive feedback saying they’d like to return.

Looking ahead, we have teamed up with Maswell Evangelical church and St Mary’s church, Osterley to run the Family Food Club each Wednesday of the summer holidays starting from the 28th July. Families will sign up on our website and be invited to come to the hall for a hot lunch meal, some family-friendly activities, and a take-home food parcel. To make this a success, we need your help! Cooks, servers, welcomers, any first-aid trained volunteers, gazebo-experts, child entertainers, smilers… there are a variety of roles we need filling. If you are interested in being involved, please email Ruth White ( with your daytime availability and what you may be able to offer. Ruth or I would be happy to chat further if you have any questions before committing. And one idea: if you are in employment, you may be able to take a CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) day to serve with us.

In advance, we would like to thank the St Johns with St Mary’s community who have always been unswervingly supportive of outreach initiatives like this. We pray that the Lord will continue to fill us with faith and the Holy Spirit, just like those believers in the early church.
