Train Children in the Right Way…

With the start of a new academic year, it is great to see so many of the children back in church eager to learn more about the Christian faith in their groups. We are very blessed at St. Johns to have so many children present each week –sometimes outnumbering the adults! With the average number in the UK being only 3 children per church we are certainly above the average and would love to see this continue to be the story for many years. I would like to sincerely thank those who come on board each week to help run the children’s groups and it was wonderful to get a positive response after the meeting last week where we appealed for more helpers. You don’t have to be a teacher or even a parent to lead a session as sometimes the best way for children to learn is just to hear a passage and try to question what it means to them.  We love it if even more would sign up for a week or two per term so we can run the groups as efficiently and successfully as possible. The kids love to get messy with crafts or to use their drama skills so if this is something you also enjoy please get in touch!

This year we are going to try to join up with some other local church youth to run more activities that will engage the older children with church. Typically the teen years are very busy with sports and hobbies so carving out moments to get together with others who share their faith is key. Early in December we will hold a Christmas party with the churches who attended the Area Youth Weekend Away for school years 6 and above, as well as the date for the next fun filled weekend away already being in the diary as May 1st-3rd 2020. We also hope to start a joint youth service with All Saints Isleworth and St Mary’s Osterley in the next couple of months, so watch this space!
