St John’s Shelter Project 2019

Part of the team who assisted over the five weeks
Short and sweet – is that the best phrase to describe this year’s Shelter Project? Lasting five weeks from 9th January to 14th February, rather than two blocks of four separated by Christmas week, it has certainly zipped by.  I think all involved would have preferred it if we could have started in sync with advent, as previous years, but it wasn’t meant to be.

We had a good number of new members to our team, for setting up and welcoming, who all added to the warm atmosphere in our hall.  And the food…..mmmmmmm…. was fantastic!!  Thank you to all the chefs for providing nutritious, tasty meals every week and Ruth White, thank you for looking after the food rota.

Even though we only had five weeks with our guests, the difference we all saw in their confidence, their smiles and camaraderie as each week passed was so noticeable.  Chatting with them this final week all were very grateful for the food, games, conversation, and the entertainment – The Vicar and the Shaker (Rev. Dave and Gareth) made an appearance!

So thank you again to all who volunteered; chefs, setup, kitchen, welcome, door, overnight and morning teams – without your commitment and God’s love, our shelter and the service we offer couldn’t exist.
