Thoughts on the Summer Fayre 2016

Bryony writes…

‘Twas the night before the fayre & all through the hall, Were books, toys and prizes and even some balls. A small team of volunteers were as busy as bees, Preparing for games, music, delicious cream teas. But would there be enough prizes for the big raffle? Would the gazebos fly away and cause a kerfuffle? Would the rain fall down and would anyone even come? Our fingers were crossed and we prayed for the sun. Then all of a sudden a magnificent rainbow appeared And helped to vanish all of our worries and fears. And what a wonderful event the fayre turned out to be, With so many people strolling about happily. The burgers were tasty, tea and Pimms were flowing And lots of dogs paraded with glossy coats glowing. There was hoopla, lucky dip and even a coconut shy, The band started playing and we mostly stayed dry. So thanks to everyone who helped to make it a success, And to do what St John’s church really does best: It brings people together from wherever they come, It’s the heart of our community and a place of great fun.

Katy Cooper who helped organise much of the summer fayre would particularly like to thank Alice, Rachel, Lavinia, Bryony, Tina and Julie for all their help. Many others helped in many other ways including on the day with music, stalls, cakes, BBQ, drinks, setting up and clearing up at the end. Katy herself and family contributed so much as well – a huge thank you to everyone who helped make the day a memorable occasion.
