In a Q&A led by Dave Maclure, Daniel Leo spoke eloquently and engagingly of his personal faith as a Christian and of his career as a professional rugby player, and how these two facets of his life come together.
In his own words, Daniel does not see himself as a ‘particularly religious’ person but stressed that his Christian faith and life values are important to him. He spoke with honesty about the difficulties he and his wife had encountered trying for a child, the low points they reached and how praying had helped. The birth of a son just one year ago was seen by both Daniel and his wife as a ‘miracle’ and their enduring faith in God had been rewarded.
Daniel has played at the highest level of the game representing Samoa at International level for many years, and playing for some of the world’s top clubs in New Zealand, France and London. Daniel explained that when going into ‘battle’ on the rugby pitch his Christian values and strong work ethic remained with him always.
Daniel stuck firm by his Christian principles and decided not to put himself up for selection for RWC15 as he does not agree with the prevailing rugby politics in Samoa. Aged 34 and close to retirement this would have been his last chance to play World Cup rugby – so a principled man indeed!
Thanks go out to Ilyas at Eurobalti and Engage2015 for securing Daniel for the night.
A great night was enjoyed by all!
