St John’s and Our Younger Members

Our youth ministry is such an important part of worship at St John’s. Over the years Sunday School has become Junior Church and then as numbers swelled Toddler Church was born. Currently we run 3 groups for our young people.

Firstly Toddler Church for pre schoolers. Parents and little ones go over to the Hall about 15 minutes into the service. Joanna and Julie are trying to encourage parents to be brave and leave their child for this session, so they can worship in peace back in the church! This group is always well resourced, parent and other helpers are on the rota to ensure good adult presence. The format of a bible story, singing, prayer and craft is a winning formula.

Junior church runs for children in Reception through to Year 2 and follows a similar format although the activity might include drama, group work as well as craft. Children are dropped off by their parent and our new starters who have just left Toddler church have been totally brilliant and grown-up coming into this group without parents. Some of our helpers are at Secondary school and add a wonderful dimension.

Youth church only began 2 months ago and this group meets in the tiny room at the back of the Hall. Often this group will be smaller and focus on the message of the bible reading or story more deeply. Our young people are encouraged to talk about some of the wider issues around being a Christian. Youth Church welcomes any youngster from Year 3 upwards.

Do come and talk to me if you would like to help with any of these groups. It is tremendously rewarding and such a vital aspect of our ministry.
