Introducing the MacLure Family

It was just over a week ago that Bishop Paul gave Tom the go ahead formally to invite Dave to ‘serve his title curacy’ at St John’s. Dave accepted within 8 minutes! (His becoming ‘pioneer deanery curate’ had over a few months been discussed as a possibility.) He and his family will be joining us in the summer.

David writes: I have known the Gillums for over 10 years, since Tom and I went on a church mission to Sudan. I was raised as a child in Sudan and Kenya as the son of missionaries. At age 8, my parents returned to work in North London where I completed my schooling and developed a love for football and Arsenal FC.

My wife Rachel is Brazilian, raised in the north-east of the country, in a city called Recife. We met at York University, where we were both studying, as undergraduates. After getting married in 2003, we stayed in York, working closely with St Michael le Belfrey church in a ministry to International Students. At this time, I completed an MA in Conflict, Governance and Development.

Soon after the birth of our son Nelson, we moved to Brazil to spend time with Rachel’s family. We settled in Natal, a small seaside town, where I taught English and Rachel was a financial administrator. Gloria was born during this time.

Since returning to London in 2009, I continued to teach English before beginning training for ordination at Oak Hill College, in North London in 2011. Our third child, Charis, was born in 2012.

We’re excited about moving into this part of London to serve the church here. We love this city, and the diversity of people it contains. Our passion is to see people grow in their knowledge of Jesus.
